If you're not a newbie, and if you don't go out of your way to aneforum.xxxonize these guys, they'll just move on to someone else. That's the way it almost always works in Patong. They're not going to waste any time on/with you, once they realize you're not going to play their game.

they almost died out after the tsunami.its been expending for the last 2 1/2 years, at the moment most of them are registered with the local mib the badges they ware are made by the mib.they even have a registered no. so they run the front of soi seadragon and around bangla rd.any bar owner wants to quarral with that?

1 : We all ignore the Tuk Tuk driivers and Gogo touts and they will just go away?

2 : Complain to all the naughty bar owners about their expensive drinks till there is nothing left for the touts and then they will just go away?

3 : Accept that these are hard ass thai mafia associate types who are not to be messed with unless you carry some serious local weight, and try not to get beaten up or worse?

To sell anything in Bangla road you need to have a licence. And the licence costs money! So most of the trinket sellers do not have licences and run when either the Thai Police or the Patong City Enforcement guys (red pickup) come into Bangla Road.

Who has a licence? For example, the mute woman who sells cigarettes at the entrance to Aussie Bar has a licence, as does the disabled woman who sells cigarettes near to Le Jaguar Bar, (well, she couldn't run away anyway - oops, sorry for that non-PC comment!)

Nope. Usually 80 or 90 and a bit less for Thai beer. 120 is generally the price in the gogos but you wouldn't know that as you've only ever been in one once on your own admission and that was to have a free drink then leave.

Re the touts, I now like winding them up. Flipped over one of their cards last night...pointed at the 500baht for a beer price and laughed. Gave him back his card and told him I live here...started to walk away and he shouts after me "150 OK? 150 for you!!!".

Top end of Bangla was crawling with farang touts last Thu night, part Seduction and part Moulin Rouge I think. right in front of the cops so palms are obviosly still being greased.

They are on Bangla Rd, starting from in front of Tiger Bars & going as far down as in front of Aussie Bar in Feb 09 i saw one.
& the rest are all down Soi Sea Dragon in front of all the Go Go's
never seen them anywhere else in Patong, just in the Bangla area.

Agree, I would never consider running a business like that. The touts was one of many reasons why I sold Hells Bells. It's was no longer fun when I weekly had to tell them to fcuk off and not annoy the customers sitting by the table outside my bar. If my customers stood up to stretch their legs, the touts was there right away with their ping-pong-talk.

The bastards have ruined good old soi Seadragon...............

Would be interesting to know how Rock Hard and Roxy manages to keep their venues tout-free.....................

when i was in Patong a few weeks back, i was sitting just outside one of those bars along Bangla the "sunset bar" i think. i saw one of the girls selling the "frogs & jewellery etc" - one of them saw the MIB coming up the road & grabbed her friend & ran off.
the next night i was in same bar the person near me was buying something, i looked at the girl & saw red light point on her head, i turned arund & saw the MIB with some "tourist police" walking towards us ,he had a laser pointer on her, i told her & pointed towards the MIB, but it was too late, they were there, her friend took off, but she was half way through a sell, MIB told her something in Thai, & pointed towards the police station at beach end, she was walked off in that direction , a young thai guy was selling hats nearby & was directed in that direction also,
my question is - are these sellers of "frogs, jewellery, hats etc" not allowed to sell their goods.
