The problem in Phuket it's price go up every 6 month
a beer under the tiger was 80 baht 3 years ago and now 130 baht
why, because of the rent, thai owner received many demand for bar for lease or sale and they are putting the price up.
the problem, this high season will no looking good, still apartment or room available between 15 dec and 15 jan, maybe will be good to have a bad high season to see price down.
The problem in Phuket, when the Thai not sale , he 's putting the price up.
i'm feel lucking to know good place in Phuket, to drink in Bar without a expensive bar fine(sometime nothing ), have a look around, kata, karon, kamala. or a good alternative : phuket town

Years ago, I met a couple of girls in a BKK go-go that teamed up with each other with purpose of minimizing the frequency of sleeping with customers while still keeping their quota. The whole theory is quite facinating. This go-go (rainbow 1) was known for Japanese customers often paying 3000K for ST. The BF, IIRC, was B400. Once the 1st girl was BFed, and finished up with her customer, she'd head straight back to the bar and pay for her friends BF for that night AND both of their BFs for the next day (B1200, leaving her with B1800). Then they'd take turns. Each BF would get them 4 BFs (2 each). The quota was 8/month, leading me to guess that the salary was 8K. So after each going with 2 customers per month, they'd have reached thier quota, left work early 4 nights, taken an extra 4 days off each, and earned 11,200 (8K salary + 1600 x 2) plus all the lady drinks they earned during the other 22 days of the month. BRILLIANT if you ask me. Another true story.

Total Catch 22 isn't it? make the barfine too high and the regulars that might go there a lot start to not go, and spread the word about the high bar fine to other regulars, and find alternative arrangements with the girls, so then you get only the tourists etc and so on ... I mean, I don't need to spell it out.

I like the idea of the Titanium on Soi 22 in Bangkok, the bar fine is/was astronomical = 2,000 baht, but the price of the lady drinks went against the barfine, making it cheaper and cheaper (for the one girl only though, no use buying a round of drinks for everyone). I think there was a minimum, but I only read about the system, so maybe I don't have all the facts. Still, seemed like a compromise somehow...

There are still plenty of bars in Patong where beers are 70/80 baht and bar fines 200 eg. Soi Moodie and Soi SeaPearl...just not in or off Bangla Road.

The whoorebar in Nai Yang tried scamming us on ladydrinks one night. We can't have bought any more than eight and yet we got handed a bill for 26 (twenty six). There was a disagreement which was resolved only when some Indian bloke who was fluent in English and Thai mediated and got the ludicrous amount reduced to ten drinks. He was either a very helpful chap or in on the scam.

In either case we didn't go back. Well not very often anyway.

What gets me about the bf that gets me upset is when you stay at a bar all night drinking buying drinks for your lady and the bar closes and you go with your lady, the bar still want you to pay a bar fine. Why would i pay when the bar is closed and i already spent my money there.

While it sounds terrible to dock harshly wages based on lateness or quota.. Sadly Thais, especially those in the bar trades, are pretty piss poor workers and without a hard approach will simply arrive hours late, mooch about doing little, etc etc..

The "Happy Night " bar upstairs at front of Soi Crocodile has some stunners in there,i was there last week - bar fine was 1000B before midnight & 500B after midnight, the girls were very pushy for lady drinks.

Completely agree with you on this one, Phil_in_Thai.

Most bars will still charge you with the bar fine when you stay until closing time, even though you may have been drinking there all evening. The bar fine is just part of the business model alongside increasingly expensive ladydrinks of extracting Baht from you.

If people are willing to pay such a barfine why not charge it?? And people most probably are paying otherwise the owners would, I assume, reaslie what they are charging is to high. Like you said if someone really really likes the girl he doesn't mind paying over the odds and as the owner is there to make money he would be stupid to ignore it.

Interesting, by "very often", do you mean more than 50% of cases? I would have thought it was maybe 10-20% of cases....but maybe I hang out too much with butterflyers!

I had that at a bar here one time. Was there 2 hours or so and bought I think 5 drinks each for me and the same lady and when we left to go they waived the bar fine. It's not difficult to implement...just a little more work for the cashier...and it's a good advert for the bar.

Because places with this business model and mentality will typically run themselves out of business... it is a desperate attempt to patch a short term solution to their long term problem for the most part. Sometimes it works IF they change other parts of the business model... Most of the time it will not.

Thai style inflation... and Thai style supply and demand do not work the same as you were probably schooled, but in the long term... the cream should rise to the top ceteris paribus...

I cheered when i heard the news. I told them to thank the owner for saving me money. hahahahaha

Anyone can pull the hotest girls in town once they leave work... a constant stream at any of the discos. By charging a few hundred more, they may end up cutting thier own throats. fine with me.

I don't agree firecat, once the bar closes the lady is no longer working for the bar.
The problem is: the lady probably has a quota to fill.
She will do anything she can to save having to pay missing bar-finds herself if she's below quota at the end of the month.
Most lady-drinks are 30% mark up. This money usually ends up in the ladies pocket every day while she waits for her monthly retainer.
Ask the lady how much she gets when you are thinking about buying her one.
Sometimes its better to slip her 20-100b for her company at the bar.
There are some freelancers that rarely sleep with customers, they survive on lady drinks.
In my bar they pick up 0-150b a day in lady drink tips.
