1,000 Baht bar fine!!!!

The one next to it, as in the last bar in that "outside" row, named Waikiki I think? I was in Phuket for the past 5 days, had a good time at both of those bars, and I also like the queen of hearts next to it. But as for Cowboy, the beer is 80 baht and the lady drinks are 200 baht. Same at the other bars I guess, but the Waikiki had 60 baht beer, as did the Queen of Hearts (though the menu says 100 baht, if you ask before you sit down, a deal can be made!). At all those places, the girls are very pushy and persistent for lady drinks - easy enough to say no though since you know they'll be back with some random BG asking for 2 lady drinks five minutes later!

I also never paid bar from any of those places, but like any good Bangla bar, the girls didn't seem to mind waiting until 3am when they finished, and go for free.

Oh well, I have to say partying in Patong is a late night affair!! Especially compared to BKK.

There are 2 places like that now on the same side. I think it was 60/70 baht, like singha and tiger and chang 60 and then heineken 70, something like that.

That is correct the owners are free to charge as they want and to be honest what they charge is not that bad.

Not having been to Thailand for a long long time from my reading I feel there is a massive focus on the bar/sex industry. Perhaps if the structure was changed a little to say a place where women went to party with foreign men with there being an expectation that they would buy them drinks at standard prices and pay for special favours rather than a full blown chop shop the government would look on the regulation of opening hours a little differently.

From my understand having read the forum the mainstream discos seem to get away with staying open until 6am or in one instance I read 8am.

It's called Aloha Bar. Just across the road from the Italian restaurant. Most of the ladies there are a bit rough but a couple are pretty great. Just don't buy them any drinks.

If I get this right the lady gets a cut of the drinks she sells. Fair enough. She has a quota to fill. Thats OK by me. Therefeore if I take her out early then I have to compensate for her losses. Im happy with that as well.

If I sit at the bar buying drinks until she finishes (which might defeat the point of taking her back) then everyone is happy?

All the bar fine nonsense - its inevidible bar fines will go up - inflation, inflation, inflation - if a guy thinks the girl is worth it - he'll pay, if not nove on, their's always another noob to make the bar owners day - same same touts - they are not there for regular visitors, expats, they are there to snag the noobs - is it so different from any other major city/tourist destination - gauge the unwary ... caveat emptor!

Exactly right Volfey, I myself have no problem with a customer waiting for closing time and paying no bar fine at all. That's if he has taken care of the lady and put a bit of money through the till as well. My Thai cashiers are not happy with that . . their problem!
The flip-side is the punter who only buys one or two of the cheapest drinks for himself, none for the ladies, but flirts and plays up for ages. Then wanders off into the night.
Staff on salary in my bar have no quotas at all, they are just expected to turn up on time, keep the bar clean and serve drinks.
Other ladies don't get wages, only a cut on Lady Drinks and BF, but they do get a share of the bar supplied food and free Sang Som.. These freelancers come and go when they please, many don't turn up for a week or longer, it's up to them. If they go with a customer and get paid well they don't come back for many days . The bar is dead when they all play hookey on the same day.
I insist my staff do not hassle customers for drinks, not early on anyway, but a gentle hint down the track is fine. I drink in many bars and I will buy a lady drink when I feel comfortable playing/talking to a lady I like.. as a reward. Usually the floodgates open and I spend way more on lady drinks than my drinks. As long as I'm doing the driving I am happy. Most Thai bar owners don't get it.

By the way, I used to work for a big multinational back in Aus (Telstra).
It was a fantastic job until they brought in bullsh!t quota's.
That completely changed the workers mindset. It became an absolute misery going to work. Sure they make more money, staff make a business, not money.
I would never inflict that crap on the girls here. I like them smiling.

Fair comment IMHO. I guess the longer you are here the more you see it happen. The guys flock here for the obvious and a 500 baht BF is nothing to them. I'm just the sad sack loitering around the bar at kicking out time or have negotiated with a girl that she will get her cut of the BF from me the next day or.........She goes and chats with the Bar owner, he looks up to see who it is.............It's Moi! Denpaaaaa! I give my cutest smile.........He waves his hand and the BF is forgotten..........I like those Bar Owners!

If 1K is being asked and being paid then by the end of this high season it could be 2K, who knows. I am guessing those not in the know will pay it.

Robahts 2K start reducing with drinks idea seems OK if it started at 1K!!! A couple of bars I used to frequent in Berlin had a tiddly wink system, buy a lady a drink you got one red tiddly wink, after 5 drinks you handed over your 5 reds and got a silver tiddly wink! 5 more reds for another silver and you handed over the 2 silvers and got a gold tiddly wink!

A "Special Minted" gold tiddly wink which meant any girl in the bar you wanted (Poles, Czechs, East Germans normally) and she usually wanted a bottle of champagne (Crystaal) or Blue Label JW to take up to the loom. The Gold tiddly wink was valid for a month if you were too bladdered from all that drinking to be able to do anything about it but you still had to buy the Champagne or the Whisky.

Cheap night out that....................NOT! Plus I was married anyway.........A mate told me.

I know that options exist, obviously, but Phuket seems later since so much more stays open late. With SC, Nana, and Patpong all closing at 2am, you have to start running around to the few select places that are open. And, if you are bothered, you can definitely do that.

But in Patong, it feels like so much stays open until 3am, and then the discos are open that much later, and then a few other places to keep you going like Safari and Buzz, ...heck, if you were interested the karaoke bars on the Thai "bangla" road (where Galaxy is) then you could stay out until 9am. Scary.
