What do you charge for an Indian Head Massage Treatment,and what did you charge when you first started out?

I am starting to give treatments in a corporate setting and am thinking of charging about £17.00 for 30 mins. Does this sound comparable to your prices- bearing in mind I have only recently trainedto practionerlevel?

I personally think that £15 is just that little bit too cheap (I mean most women will pay at least£11.95 for 20ml of the latest wrinkle cream!!) and I think paying that tiny bit extra makes people value the service you are providing.

Hi Azalia, are you being paid by the Company or are you going in to the place and relying on ladies to come to you and pay for the service? Personally I'm not sure you will get ladies in an office to pay 15-17 per treatment and also will they be allowed to be away from their desks for 30 mins (unless you are offering lunchtime or out of hours sessions).I get paid by the company and it works out at approx£26 per hour (the staff are asked to contribute by donating £2 to a charity)but I am assured of at least3 hours work pervisit. Make sure it is worth your while - rather than wait for people to come to you and don't forget sickness and holidays with your regular clients as well.

Just maybe something to think about.

thanks for replying. It is unlikely that the business will pay for the treatments, although it is possible they may partiallyreimburse a treatment. I think I really need to get more information before I start planning treatment times and prices, but, (thanks to your helpful hints ) here are my initial ideas.

I haven't yet seen the room I would be offered to have as my temporary treatment room, so when I doit would be a good idea to adjust the price according to the quality. No one wants to have a massage in a dingy, stuffy room that sorely lacks any kind of relaxing ambience! Although much can be done to make it more pleasant, it wouldn't be fair to charge the same as I would for working out of an established complementary health centre....and on second thoughts I think you're right about the time too. Although 30 mins was a possibility (it was going to be in the breaks and mostly after work) I think that it's much better to do a shorter treatmentwhich gets them to consider a full treatment at the health centre I work at.I am hoping that maybe some of my colleagues will join me and that we may be able to attract a little more business.

I think maybe £10 for 20 mins? How does that sound?

I would say £10 for 20 mins was acceptable. Why don't you talk to the company and see if they can give you a contract. Although I get £26 per hour (which only works out to around £6.50 per head) I still get paid if a client doesn't turn up. I set up a contract first where I would do minimum 3 hours otherwise it was not worth my while going to them - especially if some peoplewere not available, either out of office or atmeetings or any other reason. They thought it perfectly reasonable and I usually get more than the three agreed hours but at least I'm never out of pocket.

Everything is very much in the pipeline still, so I will have to sort out the possibilities for arrangements first before I go ahead and contact them. A contract is a worthwhile point to consider and I'll definately suggest it when I first contact the person in charge.

Over singapore here, we charge min S$1/min. that suppose to be min of S$30 for half n hr. which is probably juz f10 for half n hr..
Of cuz, Its different case for you... no matter what, over here is SINGAPORE, the lifestyle & environmenthave greatdifferent.. so..heehee~~

Hi i charge £15 for half an hour. i dont work in a company enviornment tho, i work mobile. i just think about what i would pay for it. and i think £15 is quite reasonable. but then again... i dont have many bookings for IHM!

just started holistic center, i have to charge client what they charge, they charge £18 for 30 mins, which included in it consltation and after care, so i only can give 20mins treatment, so i charge for home visit £15, and mobile £18, i put their price list next to my own, so the client feel they are gaining more to stay at home and never leave their house. make your price list intersting so you dont lose out, and make your client think they are gaining something, i also give 10% discount for second booking, hopefully get them hook. good luck i hope this helps you.

I charge 25.00 for 30-40 mins, i think this is ok, as the local shop charges 70.00 pounds for the same thing, the only difference is that they have a flashy shop !!!!!!!!lol

I have just started out as a mobile therapist and charge £14.50 for 30 min IHM. I planned to charge that whilst I built up a client base and then eventually charge a couple of pounds more later on. I seem to be doing ok but I think that is more word of mouth from people than anything!

I am going to be charging £25 but for 45 mins rather than 30mins as I pay extra attention to the back and face.

That does seem low.
Have you thought about promotion as in discount rate for subsequent visits?
I though of charging up to £25 quid, and for family and close friends a lower rate.
If I charge lower I may get the initial interest but soon get too much interst and have to turn down work down.
I suppose it depends on your circumstances as to what would be a good amount to charge.

Hi all,

I am mobile, and I charge £20. The treatments last for 45 mins. I actually massage the whole back though, not just the shoulders as I was trained at college. I dont pay agreat detail to the lower back, but I think it is nice to have the whole back massaged. I also spend more time on the scalp then we were taught.

I wouldn't go too cheap personnally. I have found out from my clients, that when I recently put my prices up (the first time ever), they were pleased! Most felt I was too cheap, and I found out that some hadn't booked me before because I was too cheap, so didn't know what to expect! We can't win can we! I think to be professional, you mustn't undervalue yourself or your time!

I have been told that I am charging too little by my friends and family.
I was told today by a business advisor friend of mine that if I go too low, people will think I'm rubbish. Ifeel guilty for chargingwhat I think is average!Charging that little bit more or average suggests that you are good. Its all about creating a demand i suppose.

Are you on a salary and contract with the company or are your practising there as a self-employed person, and then go and declare all taxes etc?

I'd really like to be on a salary when I first start out, in order to gain experience and confidence with some stability.

I've just been tohave my first ever IHM. It was amazing, not quite what I expected but very relaxing. I paid £36.00 for 45 mins which seems a bit more expensive than what the previous 'postees' have suggested [&o]
I'm really glad I went though. I am now considering training to do it.
BTW, is it normal to get the insides of your ears massaged?? It felt a bit weird!
