The difference between Polarity and Reiki?

I am new to energy work and would like to learn more.   What are the differences between Polarity Therapy and Reiki.  What do you like about Polarity and Reiki.  How could these two modalities be used with different people, such as people who may want a massage but have been through a traumatic experience and are not sure about being touched?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.lecontefairy

BJB-LMP,Thank you.  Do you practice either modality?  What do you find the most useful part of either technique in regards to your clients?  Do you work with hospice people or non-terminal people or both?  This question also goes out to 2Trees.  Thanks again.  Sorry for all the questions.  I just feel pulled to begin learning about energy work, I think mainly polarity although I can't really name why.  Up until now I have been somewhat of a skeptic.  Still, I'm not sure why now this has popped into my head.  So please bear with me as I will probably ask a flow of questions as they arise.  lecontefairy

The difference between Polarity and Reiki?

I'd say the biggest difference is that Reiki isn't actually bodywork. Most of the Reiki I do is sent from 200 to 3000 miles away to the recipient. Even when I'm working directly with someone, I've tended to work mostly off the body. This shifted quite a bit after receiving a Reiki II attunement and finishing up the Polarity portion last quarter. I like that Polarity feels more like "massage" to clients, and it's definitely changed the way I do Reiki. I find the two integrate very well, regardless of the type of session requested. I've found Polarity sessions to be more transformational for me than Reiki sessions. The Reiki attunements, on the other hand, catalyzed large shifts for me. BTW, it's my understanding that Polarity results from a synthesis of more information/models than just Ayurveda.

Again, thank you 2 Trees for your insight.  Yes, I did check out the links which raises another question.  I know there are CEU classes on Polarity Therapy.  There is also a certification in Polarity Therapy that I read about on the website. Is the certification mainly to enable one to teach Polarity or is it a very indepth study that should be done in order to perform Polarity with success.  Like for instance taking a Neuromuscular therapy class versus being certified in it. (I'm not suggesting here that a CEU in NMT is not enough to be successful in it, just a comparison) I guess what I am asking is if Certification in Polarity is worth it or will I learn enough to incorporate it into massage sessions with a CEU class?  I sure hope this makes sense.  I like the capital letters.  LeConte is the name of  a mountain where I live.LeContefairy

2Trees,Again your insight astounds me!  Where did I write I wanted to work with hospice?  Yet, that is what has been on my mind to do.  Maybe not work so much with the patient, I'm not sure I'm ready to do that, however, I feel I could be useful in working with the family members who are caring for a loved one in hospice. Thank you for the link to your school, it's a bit north for me but, if I'm meant to do this I know somehow it will happen.  Thank you for the book.  This has helped me more than I can express.  I'll keep you posted on my odyssey. You're right that "if I'm meant to do this I know somehow it will happen".  You probably will end up doing both eventually - you'll do one, and then build on it with the other, maybe the same year, maybe a few years later.  It is a neverending odyssey you're embarking on.  Enjoy the journey

Hi 2Trees,Yes, parts of my post were in response to some things you said. I hope you didn't interpret my adding of information as an affront on your knowledge. I wouldn't want anyone reading this thread to think that Polarity is "just" Vedic. Regarding Reiki, apologies for the sloppy language. Folks could argue over whether or not something "is" bodywork as long as they liked and not get anywhere. What I meant, and what I find important, is that for folks inexperienced with anything beyond Swedish (and many have never experienced even that), Polarity can feel more accessible. If your clients experience Reiki as bodywork, that's great. There are plenty who don't and need to be eased into energy work.

Nice. I started seeing a lot more bodily effects after integrating some Polarity concepts (mostly hand placements, positive and negative contacts, etc). It's invaluable to me for deep tissue as well.

I am bursting with excitement as I read this post. I LOVE polarity and am just getting ready to complete the requirements to be an RPP (that means I've done over 700 hours of polarity training). I tell people the difference between polarity and reiki is ....Reiki is about bringing universal life force through you and your client either accepts or rejects it. Polarity is about relating to what is already there. I have had no training in Reiki but have very much enjoyed Reiki treatments and believe Reiki and polarity would work well together.Someone trained extensively in polarity will often have specialization in craniosacral work as well. Polarity is a combination of the oriental 5 elements system and meridians and the auyrvedic chakra system. Polarity can also branch off into polarity yoga, astrology, communication (counseling) skills, sounding and toning, color therapy, cleanse and nutrition. It's a little name for a lot of "stuff." It's very esoteric and has links to sacred geometry and mystery school knowledge (the knights of templar are often tied to polarity).Enjoy the journey!
