Yeah, Fireballs and Supergato, I agree. Prostitution is in every country of the world, always has been and always will be. The politicos will try to make it look like they're doing something, but it'll never stop. It might not be as convenient, but it'll be there.

I do enjoy your posts, Amigomio. I learn a lot from them, even if I don't always agree with you. As with any chat board, I take what I can use and leave the rest. I don't mind if people disagree.

Politicians pander to their "base" all the time no matter what country you're talking about. Cleaning up the "vice" in TJ is a good way for the politicians to show the conservative supporters they are tough on sin [will probably bring back Ley Seca on elections too], but a few days later it will be business as usual. It is an easy way to take attention away from the real problems facing the city.

And like their American counterparts, the PAN guys are hypocrites that are heavy users of the street girls [and probably ladyboys too]. By day they are family values guys talking about the evils of the harlots. By night they are some freaky mongers. I hate hypocrites.

Amigomio has the patience of a saint and I appreciate his input.

Let me put you up to date: For years if not decades, the Partido Accion Nacional (PAN) has been a sworn enemy of prostitution and hedonism in Mexico.
They are after all the Religous Right of Mexico (some places they are moderate and corrupt as the PRI, but still sworn enemies of...).

When Vicente Fox won in 2000 the presidency, ending the reign of the PRI, many members of PAN swore that some nasty changes would come, like for instance, curve or stop prostitution.
But they just couldn't, cause at the same time they wanted to put a cork on prostitution, Europe was legalizing prostitution.
I was part of townhall meeting with the Monterrey mayor when they tired just that, to erradicate prostitution here.
Everyone of us that spoke in that moment, quoted Holland, Sweden, Germany, Greece, et al, as countries where prostitution was been legalized.

We left them without weapons to strike at the working girls, cause no one wanted to hear "well, in the USA..."

NOW... and pay attention ChasinBeavers, what are we going to use as an example to tell the authorities that prostitution is legal in parts of Europe if Holland is the first one trying to clam it down???

If el PAN in TJ wants to start minimizing prostitution over there... I mean WHAT A COINCIDENCE that he picks the precise moment that Amsterdam will cut down the Red District!!!

As we say in Mexico "no la brinca sin huarache", meaning Tj mayor is not jumping into action just because he woke up one day and thought of it.

Right now, ChaisingBeavers, no one will be able to tell him "... in Euorope prostitution is legal"....
... he'll just answer "Oh yeah? how about Amsterdam???".

If the politicians want to act against prostitution right now... they have the upper hand.

I don't see how changes in Europe would affect TJ? Who would have trouble deciding whether to spend $1,000 to make a long flight to Europe where their $1 is worth 2/3 of a Euro.....or take a quick trip across the border where prices are much more reasonable??

Re the new mayor of TJ, I suggest he needs to be marshalling all of his forces on the drug lords like the U.S. ought to be focusing on finding Osama. All other problems pale in comparison. I see that yesterday gunmen broke into the police headquarters in Rosarito Beach and opened up, killing one cop and wounding another. They got away. Dangerous, dangerous, dangerous!! But I did notice that traffic cops were very active in TJ last week, pulling over lots of motorists. I've never seen them so thick!

Yes it seems many countries are re-criminalizing prostitution saying prostitution goes hand in hand with illegal drug trade, which I kinda agree with. Usually where you find prostitution you also find drugs, TJ is no exception. But some people also claim if you legalize prostitution it will lead to more sex trafficking of underage girl? I'm not sure if I follow the logic there, as commerical sex would still be against the law for under 18 year old girls.
Sweden is another country that has re-criminalized prostitution recently and I'm sure others will follow?

I see in another thread that Mexico City has failed to totally legalize prostitution as they cited the same reasons above, and feel they have to discourage girls from even thinking about being a sex worker.

Yes that's the latest rumor that TJ new Major Jorge Ramos, and his PAN party is once again trying to get the street girls off the streets and alley in Tijuana. It's also been rumored that the SGs aren't going to take this lying down, and will put up a fight as a organized group and fight this?

I have been concerned about this new goverment coming in, claiming they were going to make Tijuana safe, and do something about police corruption too. Already there is talk among mongers that this Jorge Ramos is the real deal, and will clean up Tijuana, and will make TJ safe from shakedowns? If this is what these guys believe, I bet they will be sadly mistaken, OH I could see a few PR moves, and a few arrests of TJ cops, but if a TJ cop sees a drunk gringo, he is going to still ask for a bribe, and I bet get it, but time will tell?

But I am really concerned about this PAN in Tijuana. I think PAN is a little better then the PRI, but what I hate about PAN is their neoliberal polices that have devastated the living standards of the working poor in Mexico. The privatizing of big business along with openly pro-American imperialist polices of the Bush administration, and the worst thing I hate about PAN is the way they try to adopt right-wing religious ideology of the Christian religious right in America, except with PAN they use the Catholic Church. Together with PAN and the Catholic Church, would could eventually see the disappearence of prostitution in Tijuana, or rather will see it become illegal.

It's very importand the SGs fight Tijuana's city hall.

Amsterdam RLD dosn't have shit on the Zona Norte.... WAYYY overhyped. Good ridance. I'll take an alley rat over a stuck-up window ho any day.

As matter of fact, it is closing the Red District.
Of course the emphasis is on "end the explotaition of women".
Well, so much for those that say that prostitution is legal all over the world, including (supposedly) Mexico... seems that one of the bastions of legalized prostitution is going up in smoke.
Let's see if Germany doesn't follow suit.

I forgot the name of that guy from that large cable company out west. I should remember, because I had their cable service, before I turned to satellite, and boy they use to rip me off, and for being so righteous he still allowed some porn on their cable, by tried to limit it in some places, or offer the real porn at very high prices.
