Question On introducing a over active dog to a small kitten?

Ok we got my new kitten yesterday. yesterday we spent most of the day getting him use to us when we where home. He was so scared when we got him, but he is a big lover after he settled down in the house.
I introduced my older dog who is a lab last night after the kitten was more calm and we were going to bed, my lab has helped raise kittens, baby bunnies and loves several other animals. But since she knows how to act around a kitten I introduced her, the kitten at first didn't like her but by 3 am he was sleeping about a inch from my labs head. I thought that was cute and he found out that she wasn't going to hurt him.

But now I have to introduce a over hyper dog to the kitten. The kitten's name is Gremlin, and he is taking after his name lol. But the dog who is hyper has never seen a kitten only adult cats and he loves to pick on them from time to time. How would you introduce them?

Would you introduce him to the gremlin like I did my older dog make him sit on the other side of the room then when the Gremlin sees him let him sniff the air and then bring the young dog over and let him sit beside the bed while we pet the gremlin and tell him he is fine. And try to keep the young dog calm?

Please give me some advice I won't be doing this alone. My husband is going to help me with the introductions with both the young dog and the other cats.
Ladystan - that makes no since. I don't crate my dogs they have free roam of the house and so will this kitten in a week. And I want him to be ok with my younger dog.

Try placing their food bowls together (MAKING SURE THEY KNOW WHICH ONES WHICH XD) but make sure your their in case something funny happens. Try and get them to play together. The thing is your dog dont understand he's big and playful and active and too much for a little kitten to handle so try getting them together you know when your dogs laying down and relaxed place your kitten their and see her reaction and then your dogs if they are good give them both a treat each if they fight and start being bad Tell them off but dont make them lose their trust in you too much shouting can drive your pet away from you so give them a gentel No Dont do that, Naughty but never yell Only if one seriously harms the other... Other wise Never shout.

Supervision is key for the first little while. Gremlim may get inadvertently hurt while they inspect and try to play with each other.
I am a sucker for animals. Two years ago I went by the local pet store and bought the last kitten because I felt sorry for it. On the drive home I had to think how I was going to introduce her to my hyper lab cross.
I used to rescue cats and dogs and this method has never failed me.
The dog knew I had something in my hands. I sat quietly on the couch with the kitten protected by my hands and body. Once the dog was a bit quiet I would open my hand and let him see. This went on for about an hour. Then I let the kitten sit in my lap and let the dog inspect it-again he came and went for about an hour. Then I placed the kitten by my feet-the dog nosed and sniffed. If the nosing got to hard the dog was gently pulled back and told no. If I was not able to be there to supervise the kitten went into my big dog kennel or into a room by himself. At the end of the week they were chasing each other through the house but the dog was gentle and I always have a place where the kitten (and 2 older cats) can go but the dog doesn't fit. At night they all curl up in bed with me! It never ceases to amaze me how small my 75lb dog can curl up-and snuggled up to his belly or head are the cats. Time and patience and it should be this way for you too!

Add: I don't crate my dog either, however had to for one month due to a lapse in his bathroom behaviour. The crate stayed out because the cats like to go in it--because the dog won't!!

Two weeks ago, we adopted a puppy that is just about my 1 yr old cat's size. The puppy is very hyper! I was nervous my cat might not like her but, they are best friends! You have to let the cat defend herself. Sometimes my puppy bite my cats tail and my cat responds by biting her back. But, then two minutes later, you'll see them running off together and getting into trouble. As she gets bigger, she'll be more confident and put the dog in his place if he is bothering her. But, again, BIG OPEN ROOMS are the best place. Let them get to know each other and establish their boundaries.
