Of course, this case is continuing so it is only an allegation, but the last thing we male massage therapists need is another groping case...

I think this kind of stuff will always happen in massage especially in the 'upper' market venues where people are just booking one off's rather than getting to know and trust your practitioner in smaller 'non' therapeutic practices where it is provided for pure health care.

As a practitioner of Tui the sytems is applied clothed, and at times with an additional sheet over the client so everyone has boundries.

He'll get what he deserves...karma and all that!

But you know the press will be making extra good of this

Another thought could be that the govenment is realising that more and more people are moving from conventional medicine to alternative, especially massage. They are losing revenue! so they have concocted a story to 'shade the trade' sending clients back to drugs........just a thought lol.

These type of allegations do crop up occasionally and do us no good whatsoever, but this pales in comparison with the distress it causes to the victim. It reinforces the case for good employment practice i.e. is the masseur a member of a PA? Has a CRB check been carried out (difficult if they are a foreign national)? Are qualifications valid, and are foreign quals. in date and comparable to UK quals? In other words make people jump through all the hoops.

This won't put off the determined perverts but it will put up a few obstacles. If the allegations are proved I strongly believe a blacklist should be created and maintained by the relevant governing body.

whilst this is a sad case, it is by no means limited to just the massage profession. I have seen quite recently cases involving physios, chiros and osteos, some are prosecuted, and some not due to lack of evidence.

My PA has reciprocal links with HPC, The Osteopathic, and Chiropractic Councils, and if a therapist is struck off one of these, if it is a fitness to practice issue, then they will removed from the PA membership too.

In cases I have dealt with, the insurers are also informed, and insurance is refused.

All this of course, as SM quite rightly states, wont put off the determined.

Don't look at the General Medical Council website then, you will be staggered at the GPs/dentists/nurses who are struck off or suspended for similar things.

There are unfortunately always bad apples.
