mistake on card, what would you do?

I have had these cards for a couple of weeks now and just now noticed. Instead of my cell phone number, my home phone is listed! The problem is that my home telephone number is also my husbands business number which is a computer company. So if no one is here, it goes to a recording with his business greeting. What do I do?!

How could I change the greeting without it just sounding odd? I haven't been using a company name in reference to massage, just my name.

His company name is ABC (thats not the actual letters, changed for privacy reasons) Computer Services. The greeting says in my voice:

"You have reached ABC Computer Services. We are available today but are currently assisting other clients. Please leave a message and your call will be returned within the hour."

Could I just leave out the computer services part and say you have reached ABC? Or do you think I need to change it totally different?

I can't believe that I didn't notice this. Its totally my fault, and I have about 995 more cards to go before I can change it!

Oops...I came very close to having the wrong number printed on my cards before. My luck, the one digit I "almost" had wrong would have rang to an adult 'toy' store or something. lol

I like your idea of "You've reached ABC" and then the rest... or you can change the opening statement to something very general such as...

"Your call is important to us. We are available today, but we are currently assisting other clients. Please leave a message and your call will be returned within the hour."

You've given out 5 cards so this # hasn't gone to that many people. I would reprint the cards ASAP. I'd rather reprint the cards than give out my home phone number to 1000 people only to have to give them my CORRECT number later.

I'm really tight on money right now. I honestly don't have an extra $40 to spend. I guess that sounds horrible, but its true. I'm going to have to make due for right now. I just spent money I didn't have, on my own lubricants(the company is only willing to buy the oil they have been using), and a massage chair, so I'm pretty strapped.

As long as I can change the message appropriately I don't feel it will be a major problem. My website has the right number listed, so at least that's going in the right direction. At least its a telephone number that gets to me...even if its not the right one.

The place where I rent space, changed phones over to digital and didn't bring over our number so all of my printed material was a waste. I got return address labels and printed the new number and stuck it over the old. I didn't look great, but I didn't have to spend the money on reprinting everything.

It is important to give the number first, so that people don't think they misdialed.

Of course, you don't really have mailboxes for each, but it will help you figure out the odd call that doesn't state which business is being left the message.

Come to think of it? check with your phone company. You might be able to get seperate "boxes" with different ringers, too, on the same phone line.

why don't you just put a sticker over the "wrong" number with the correct number on it? i do this on my gift cards. they have my old address so i put a label on it and write in the correct address. way less hassle. no biggie.

I wouldn't hand out anymore cards with the wrong number on them.

Yes you can place a sticker over the wrong number but IMHO it will look very unprofessional. For the time being you can make up cards at Vistaprint.com for a very reasonable fee. Then when you are plush you can reorder the ones you want.

I would also contact the people you know you've given the card and ask for it back explaining that the number on it is wrong. You don't have to go into any other explanation other than you didn't realize it till you had already started to hand them out. They don't need to know it is your home number.

Don't sweat it to much. Stuff like this happens occasionally. Just be glad you haven't given out 1,000 of them then realized the error.

Then, I would not send them out and wait until you get more money.

Alternatively you could use a lot of elbow grease and Sharpie-pen black through each phone number and print the correct number on each as a "correction". Most likely using a set of lables and typing/printing the number and cutting each out and placing it directly over the black "Sharpie-ed" mark. It won't look very professional though. So this depends on the look you want to send.

If you change your husband's business recording you may cause a loss of business for him. So, you need to think about the bread-winner in the situation if you are that low on dough.

Cicerone's comment on the phone number change is a good one -- as an alternative, you could try:

• "You've reached (713)555-2468, the offices of ABC Computer Service and Ocean Massage. Please leave a message for either business after the tone. Your call will be returned shortly."

I think the best thing to do is print up some temporary free ones on VistaPrint. Trying to finagle things is going to end up sounding not quite as professional for both you and your husband.

If all your calls are going to his business phone, you are kind of wasting the cell-phone money, right? So I'd get temp cards and get rid of the old ones - or sticker over the wrong number (which doesn't look great, I agree).

Argh. Doncha just hate this kind of mistake? It's so frustrating!
