kephra oil sensitivity

i gave my15y/o daugher a massage fri. evening. starting saturday afternoon she began itching on her arms...this has progressed to the point where today, monday, she has very itchy welts on her feet, legs and arms.

i feel awful for her...i used Kephra unscented oil....there are no preservatives listed just a combo of oils: sweet almond, canola, grapeseed, apricot kernel, avocado and aloe vera oils.

she does not have a nut allergy to my knowledge. i have used this oil on her a few times.

i havent changed anything at home...no new foods, bath soaps or detergents.

has anyone else had a similar experience? is it the oil? or just a coincidence? how to alleviate her discomfort? i bought her some hydrocortisone cream but its not helping much.

Oatmeal bath, maybe?

I've never used Kephra oil, so I have no experience with it. The hard part will be figuring out which part she's sensitive to, since there are so many types of oils in the blend.

I wondered if baking soda might help, and found this quote on the web:

"As an anti-itch agent. When baking soda is added to bath water, sunburn sufferers often have a notable reduction in pain. Place 1 cup (8 ounces) of baking soda under the running bath faucet so it dissolves completely. Soak in a lukewarm tub for about 30 minutes. Such a bath will soothe the pain--and you won't have to undergo the stinging sensation of a shower.

In addition, baking soda can be used in cool (but not cold) bath water to soothe skin irritations and lessen itching associated with prickly heat, bee stings, and other minor skin irritations. A paste (made with just enough water to get the desired sticky consistency) placed on an insect bite or sting and allowed to dry is a time-tested approach for drawing out and neutralizing poisons.

People with skin allergies who tend to react to commercial laundry detergents might find washing clothing and bedding in baking soda is less irritating."

As a hyper-allergic person, I vote for the oatmeal bath combined with the baking soda bath! The combination is very soothing.

A person can become allergic to anything at any time, regardless of how many previous exposures there have been. (Well, there has to have been one previous exposure, they say, but after that, there could be 1000 instances of no reaction, then suddenly an allergy.) It can take some real detective work to find out what caused it, so the best thing is to write down all she came in contact with the day before and same day as the outbreak began. Whenever there is any rash, write down everything you can think of. A pattern soon emerges, and you know what to avoid.

For me, it would have been the aloe that caused the reaction. Don't discount it just because that is what is so often used to treat a rash. ANYTHING can be the culprit!

Yes, anything can be the culprit - put any oatmeal stuff on me and I come out in red welts and start to have trouble breathing, and that's just external contact, eat it and I pretty much can't breathe, plus go red (welts are an early allergic reaction, breathing and generalised red rash are the next seforum.xxxes)

Quite often an allergy to a favourite food will come on after a very high fever - when you're begining to feel a bit better and have some of your favourite food to eat the body can be a bit confused by the still fairly high fever and decide what you are eating is the problem, next time you eat it, hey presto, allergy. My oat allergy was developed that way (scarlet fever 106deg temp...). Sometimes it can also happen with pregnancy - the antibodies to stop rejection of the baby can get confused and decide some food is an issue. It can be anything.

I will say 24hr to develop such a reaction and to have it getting worse over the next 48hrs (Saturday to Monday) doesn't sound like it's the oil to me, exposure Friday night and still getting worse on Monday sounds like it is something in the environment a continous exposure, rather than something encountered only on Friday. Allergic reactions tend to flare up pretty quickly, they may stay inflamed for a while, but but usually will not get worse and worse unless there is more and more exposure.


Did she leave the house between the massage and first sign of reaction?

we havent been able to come up w/ what may have caused this, but we will try to be more attentive to what she comes in contact with...its hard to remember these things from even just one day past!
