A point I have been making for a while and usually get lots of opponents..

The efficiency of ordering and stock systems in the west, the low corruption and sales / import taxes etc..

Its not a whinge, its just recognizing the reality.

Its a little early to predict the demise of the HRC and I am sure we are taking the most expensive sounding item on the menu and making a big deal about it.. if most of the meals come under 500 baht its merely a bit more FAT (farang added tax) for tourists to experience a different venue.

But you better believe when another business opens up, they are going to think, well if the HRC can sell burgers at 700 I can price my bog standard ones in a normal location at 400.. This is part of the strange thing about this town, its run by people who have never gone anywhere else, who have this fixed built in mindset that 'thailand number one' and everything about thailand is the best in the world. They have seen pricing go in a one way steep direction for 10 years since the baht devalued.

i think people under estimate the power the kids have, especially on a holiday
sometimes parents just want to find a place that will make the kids happy and if they got the money, will pay it

it's all well and good to want to show the kid's the local fare, but if that means the choice between having 2-3 moping kids at a thai restaurant or you in HRC drinking a beer in relative piece the dad will take HRC most times

One time in Pattaya I stopped into the HRC for lunch. A club sandwich, fries, and a few Heinekens cost me around 900 baht, I think. Kind of pricey, for Thailand. At 1100 baht, they give you a free stuffed dolphin from the gift shop.

The burgers probably are good.

WHo cares about the price of the burger...? People hopefully go there for the experience eating there, or with their friends..

But it also makes me wonder why you stay in Phuket when you have that attitude...? Wouldnt it be better for you to stay up in Issan or something where prices seems to be what you can bear....?

I'm really suprised by all this 700 baht a burger malarky. I've eaten in HRC all over the world and never remembered them being expensive in the currency of the country I was in at the time. I ate in the HRC in Singers, which as we all know is a more expensive country for food, drinks etc than here and do not remember thinking it was high priced compared to other eating places. I am trying to take into consideration that this 700 baht burger must be of a larger size?? maybe a 10 or 12onz?? and made from imported prime beef??

So what size is it and whats it made from???.

Money is no concern to me my friend....Issan or New York City...I can afford the best...You wanna spend 500-700 baht for a piece of ground beef, thats your choice...atmosphere or not....

I was just thinking about something that sort of just blew me away about this 700 baht burger. Which is close to 20usd

I just threw a private party in the penthouse of the Hudson Hotel. Probably one of the most popular, trendy hotels in NYC
The parties bill was pp. The food part of the bill was 30pp, which comes to about 1100 baht

So for 1100 baht in one of the hot spots in one of the biggest destinations in the world, we had lobster appetizers, crab cakes, jumbo fried shrimp, beef tenderloin and 2 more items I can't recall for 2 hours

That is a pretty astounding comparison to me, when I think about it.

Also, I have always been for paying whatever I want for a meal and have 12k bills at restaurants in Thailand just for my wife and I and I really don't think I would pay 700 baht for a burger. That is pretty fcukin crazy!!

So no one knows the size or the meat quality, but having read a little more in comparisons from other HRC, this one is stupid expensive, will get ttrade from the tourists, one visit maybe two. Its in the right location for the people staying in the holiday inn etc, paying 500 baht for a sandwich at lunchtime to sit by the pool cos they don't trust those dirty foriegn places, who only charge 60 baht for the same thing. It'll trade and make a bit for them in high season and die in the low each year but so do many other businesses so nothing different except, they will not be getting my custom.

I have zero interest in living outside of an area where essentials are available..

But 700 baht burgers... Well it just better be a damn good one is all I can say.. I actually dont mind spending money on what I feel is quality.. But a 'bog standard' burger is 200 - 300 baht around town, so for it to be +-3x the price it just better be a bit special.

700 baht is the price of a delicious main course in the 9th floor, attractive hostesses, perfect service, etc..
