Flower sellers ! What the F-ck is it all about ?

There is not much about los which pisses me off but one thing which does is the bl--dy anoying gits going round bars selling roses ,come to think about it i was in Benidorm for a week last month and they were at it there as well .HOW MANY TIMES ! have i been sitting quite happily in a bar only to be invaded by these idiots the most annoying thing is when you are sitting there with your hairy ass-d friend and they come in "do i have a lady with me"? does my friend want flowers ? no ! so f-ck off and dont annoy me. Its especially bad in Hua Hin where there is a whole family of kids from a 14 year old girl down to the irritating little brother who seems to think i want to observe him disco dancing DO I f-ck 1 the girl is a bit of a looker and i tell you what if she comes near me in about 2 years time i will show her where she can shove her flowers ! :

LOL!! As I was reading the 1st post heer, I glanced at the advertisement on the right side of the screen. There was a whole long column of flower baskets for sale by some internet florist. There everywhere, they're everywhere!! mg: All it needed to be complete is a pic of a big-eyed waif standing next to the flowers!!

But seriously, the flower sellers are annoying at best. One night in BKK, I had one little girl hanging on me for near an hour, even though I told her time and again that I was not buying her flowers. Even yelling at her made no diiference. Just kept staring at me with the big sad eyes, tugging my sleeve, and whining about me buying the flowers form her. About drove me crazy! But I did NOT buy any flowers from her. I would have like to have had a few words with her parents!! Who can do that to a child? It is unforgivable!! :thumbsdow

I was in Soi Cowboy once and a little ?vietnamese? girl with perfect english was trying to sell me flowers. I declined, and she started to be "cute", saying "I boxing you" and hitting me. When I continued to decline, she started saying "F**K You" and being pretty aggressive. I told one of my expat friends the story, and he got all excited "don't let those *** talk to you like that". He made a big deal about it, telling the doormen of the club to look for the girl and beat the sh*t out of her. I had just thought it was a funny story, I didn't want the little girl to get hurt. Anyways, when i came out of the club, she ran up to me and apologized.... Just figured some of you may have run into her, she spoke the best english I heard from a kid in all of thailand.

I was also in Soi Cowboy where I had the bad problem with the girl who was whining, grabbing at me and pulling on me and wouldn't take no for an answer, even when I yelled at her and said mean things to her. I said to the BG I was drinking with, "I thought Thai people treated their children well, how can they let them wander in the streets at 2:00 at make them resort to such degrading behavior!!" She said to me, "The girl is not Thai. She is Indian. None of the children selling flowers here at night are Thai. They are all foreigners! We would not treat our children that way"

The "prostitutes" have a lot more dignity than some of these flower sellers, in particular the children who are forced into this by parents who IMHO ought to be punished for treating their children that way. :bangin: (Altho all flowersellers are not all so bad, and some are performing a good service for us. :thumbsup: )

They are just trying to turn a crust man, and you are the best game in town. I know what you mean but I do think that the 'hard sell' is all part of your Tailand experience, cope with it bloke!

There is a lot more to the story about these kids selling flowers, than what appears. You might want to think about it and cut them a break, they are actually working to benefit someother low life, and if they dont fill their quota of sales, they get beaten.

There was a local recently jailed for just this the other week in Patong.

Yes, I can explain why most serial killers and rapists are Westerners. It is because in the West there are no BGs. The things that a man has to go through to get laid in Western societies is so bad that it makes men hate women. Men feel helpless, like the women have all the power over them, because the man has a strong need for sex, but can only get it from the woman who makes him perform like a dog doing tricks(metaphorically speaking, i.e., figuratively not literally) just to get his **** wet on a rare occasion. In eastern societies, it is easy to get laid, and men don't feel so powerless.

Yes, I can explain Catholic priest's behavior. On this subject, I speak from first hand experience, having known well priests who sexually abused boys and, in some cases, girls as well. I grew up for my first 17 years across the street from the church and the parish house where the priests lived. I saw a lot of things that other people didn't know about then. I was also an altar boy. In particular, in year's past , when homosexuality was a crime, and homosexuals were abused, castigated, discriminated against, beat up("rolling fags" was a popular pastime with some of the older guys I knew), and thrown in jail, the priesthood was an acceptable outlet for men who realized they were homosexual. In theory, because they realized they were not "normal," becoming a priest was an effort to get closer to God, so that he could help them overcome their "problem." But, in reality, it made monasteries hotbeds of homosexuality, since a lot of the priests there were homosexual. Then priests were employed in all-boy schools to teach horny, sexually curious, young boys, who became their easy prey.

And in every church, priests had lots of opportunites to be alone with young boys in the sacristy(priest/altar boy dressing rooms), where no one else was allowed to be. Let me tell you, it can get a bit dicey when you are the only altar boy serving mass at 5:30 AM in a church where there are only 5 old ladies with rosary beads to begin with, and the priest drinks more than a few sips of the altar wine, more like a few glasses, and then corners you alone in the back rooms of the church after mass when he knows that no one else will be coming around in the next 45 minutes or so. You had to be tough and learn fast how to handle yourself in that situation, and some boys were naive and never saw it coming, until it was too late. In those days, if a boy got the worst of it, then he didn't tell, 'cause then he would be lableled a fag and think none of the girls would want to go with him. He would confide only in his closest friends whom he could trust to keep it secret. We all knew what was going on, and, sometimes, a boy didn't have to say anything. You knew that he had mass with Father Ralph(6' 5", 250 lbs.) early that morning. You would take one look at his face and know what happened. You might say to your friend, "Jesus, didn't anybody warn him!" But if he was new and a shy boy, then maybe no one told him. It wasn't a subject that was discussed a lot and never in public!! If we didn't like the kid to begin with, then we would all have a good laugh about it!!

I don't mind people trying to earn a crust who are poor to start with! Therefore i always act with kindness to anyone who trys to cell me cigs, flowers or pointless thing which light up in LOS.

The thing which really annoys me is when in your home town in England, someone gets people from as far a way as Doncaster to come down and try to sell flowers to you for a good cause! When you know that the seller is on £5 an hour, and the profits go to the 'owner'. That really pisses me off!

At least as far as i know, the people in LOs doing the selling actually need the money, and are not those who can't be bothered to get a real job!!!

In Kata you tend to see the same kids sellling flowers each night. They are well known to the bar owners and regulars.

I was chatting to a Thai lady bar owner and she told me the kids were (relatively by local standards) well off. This is the general concensus among bar owners I have chatted to.

I like these kids and I pay them to play connect 4 with me (I tip like a bastard 'cos they are funny and usually make me laugh).

Simply put, if we stopped buying flowers (or paying for connect 4 games) maybe they would be tucked up in bed and not running round all night. Not sure...

However, don't consider buying flowers as a kind of charity. There are many poorer kids in Phuket you could donate to through a traditional charity.

some guys here have not really got my point what i am trying to get over is whilst i fully understand that in los the locals must make a living in some form or other surely it is totaly pointless trying to sell flowers to 2 guys who are sitting together in a bar without any female company If i am with a girl i can say miaw khap same as everyone else but it just bugs me the and i cant really see the purpose of trying to sell (aggresively sometimes) flowers to 2 guys

you know we are walking ATM's. One thing is for sure, if you don't talk to a ATM no money will come out. So they start to talk to them (you). The chance that money will come out is higher for sure. That's the reason they start talking to you. They already have a NO, a YES they can always get.

BTW, two days ago we had a late session at Sure Garden in Phuket Town and there of course came a flower lady. She offered me flowers for sure, but I didn't want it. Then she started in Thai: "some years ago I bring you home. Remember very good. You were very drunk. You give me 200 Baht." Me? I responded. She was very sure. "Mao maak maak. Tsjing tsjing".

I cannot remember it, but I believe her ;-)

Steve you are exactly correct, these children are operated by adults who encourage them to be persistent and also the threat of not making their quota hangs over their heads, the best way is to politely decline, I know this means hassle for the kids but rather the money would go to a better cause and there are many of them in Thailand, so fellas don't blame the kids

my thoughts exactly. A polite "mai aow krap" usually does the trick for flower sellers, people trying to sell me maps of thailand and all that other junk they tout around the restaurants.

i have been approached many, many times over the years, but not once 'aggressively'. not too difficult to give them a smile and a mai ow krap.
yes, they will approach me again the next evening but it doesn't really bother
me. guess we should all try to put ourselves in their shoes and not get too
worked up over mundane issues. cheers.
