However, you must distinguish between the working- and the drinking girls. The latter may or may not go home with you, but will ask you to buy drinks for them (50 rmb). In some of the bars you migt also receive a bbbj after buying a certain number of drinks. All this we need to check out in the future. All I can say at this point is that it looks promising to me.

When you say the area looks VERY promising, do you mean like it's becoming another Tong Ren Lu type of area? With lots of clubs filled with working girls.

Mongerers, it is time to put Julu Lu 158 on your map!

This weekend I went to the underground-area in Julu Lu 158 to attend the Grand Opening of Woodstock Bar, but it wasn't completely furnished yet and is said to open next week. Woodstock already looks very nice from the outside and will be one of the largest bars down there. I can tell you that the area looks VERY promising to me. In a few weeks time there will be at least 50or even more bars to choose from, of which 10 or so are already in business.
We stopped for a pint at the LIBIDO-Bar, the Nightshift (where the girls recognized me) and the exchange-bar, just to name a few. The longest time period we stayed in the exchange bar, because they had good music, a few girls to drink with and a one-of-the-kind owner named Max, a very fat German bloke from Munich who lives in China since 13 years. As I am from West of Germany, I had difficulties to understand his broad bavarian accent, but what I understood is that he's a nice guy.

Don't know about Julu Lu (you could go down and give us a report if u like ) but Manhattans has opened next to Big Bamboo and by all accounts it's business as usual!

Bin at the location just after the lunar new year, last friday.
This is still a construction site, and even considering the speed of chinese construction work (which is only surpassed by the speed of demolishen and decay...), I guess it will still take some time until fully functional:
some bars seemed "ready" (although not open that night I had been there, but from other reports it seems soft opening has somewhat started), others are still empty holes with windows.
Ah, were are the good days gone....

I heard from friends today that many are worried that the girls at Tongren Lu have started to invade the high end clubs, Bar Rouge, M18 etc etc, Muse... most of these places have expensive drinks + entrance fees, so expect prices to rise.

Hopefully the new location will work out, otherwise I would rather hang-out comfortably in Pudong.

According to my information, Woodstock bar will open it's doors in the Datong area on February 23rd. I have personally checked out the underground-area around three weeks ago. After looking for the entrance for 15 minutes, I finally got in and took a walk around what looked like a construction site, with a few bars open already. There were almost no customers and several girls tried to drag me into the empty bars. I left this sad place and will come back on the 23rd to celebrate the Grand Opening of Woodstock.
Regardig the 10 Tequila rule, I havegot the feeling that even 5 Tequila woulddo the trick in the bars that are in business already.

Yesterday, I checked out the new venue where many of the Tong Ren Lu establishments have moved to. The location is 158 Julu lu. Most of you are familiar with this road since it used to be a popular bar street and it empties out at the Hilton. However, this new site is 8 blocks east from the Hilton and a stone's throw south of Yan' an lu. The key to finding this place (and it is not easy) is it is UNDERGROUND...under a small park. This may work out well in the end since seedy establishments are tolerated in China if kept concealed.

It is difficult to tell at this point how well the Da Tong plans will work out. Most of the bars have not opened so you do not want to go there until at least March. Police are everywhere there making sure the place does not open prior to March. Definetely not a good sign that the police are watching this place closely. There are bars that cater to Japanese, Chinese...and likely many for westerners. The whole area is extremely seedy (which is a good thing). Many of these bars will be the type where the girl will give BJs in the back for 10 tequillas. There is one bar there called T.T. Bar which I am told is to "be like Manhattan".

So keep your eyes out on how Da Tong develops with a visit in late March or in April. If you find out more information, I would appreciate you sharing.
