canine massage school - a lot of choices

I do not have a massage background but like many of you, have a love and passion for dogs and their well-being. I am trying to compare the schools and curriculum content; have any other massage 'newbies' completed training they might recommend? Thanks so much

Hi there...are you looking for a specific area or part of the country? Are you willing to travel? Are you looking for a human massage program with a specialty in canine massage, or just looking for canine massage only?

Thanks for your reply - I have sure done a lot of browsing, hours of surfing and I have recently started talking to the different schools. I am willing to travel, west coast ideally. I suppose I am looking for endorsements from anyone who had a great experience at a great school. The NW School looks the most promising so far, I am also looking at Lang. ... do you know any graduates of these programs?

Sorry, I don't! ...if I come across anyone, though, I'll pass their info along. Have you asked Lang for graduate referrals? Most likley the graduates they refer prospective students to will give a good review but it doesn't hurt to check it out anyway.

Gently butting in here, I am going to a lecture about canine massage at my local humane society on June 21; the lecturer is a graduate of Lang. I can't post a link to her website b/c I'm a newbie, but the name is healing hands canine massage.

I'm really looking forward to the lecture. There's no place locally that advertises that they teach canine/pet massage, so I'm hoping she can provide some guidance for me.

***Back to add: HAHA, I figured it out from your intro. Here are a couple links to check out. I don't know any graduates but their programs appear to be decent Link 1 and Link 2. They offer different levels (intro & advanced) of canine massage work. Somewhere to start at least, and prep for your upcoming lecture...maybe it will inspire some questions to ask of the Lang graduate (?).

There's also a college in Ojai California (kinda near Santa Barbara) that I think was listed in the animal therapies thread. For the immediate future, I'd need something right in San Diego, as I'm still working on my MT program here. I'm surprised there's not more canine/pet massage courses in this geographical area, it seems like it would be a natural! OTOH, the thought of going to class in Ojai or Northern California sounds heavenly We'll see what happens *crosses fingers*

Massage Awareness

I am presently doing the home study portion with Massage Awarenss (Florida). There is a ton of information but I have found it somehwat difficult to wrap my head around HOW to study the course. It is very interesting with a lot of anatomy, but is has taken a few months to get a grasp on a plan of attack. I hope to meet Jean Pierre for the practical this winter. Cheers!
