The main reason for this posting is due to the many phone calls we’ve been receiving for quite some time now. It seems that the travel time between the Detroit/Windsor border crossings is still an on-going concern for many. Rightfully so! Since 9/11 and the war effort, many have shied away from visiting our city to indulge in some legal Escort entertainment here in Windsor.

Although the times can add up rather quickly for passage through the borders, I can offer this personal knowledge regarding such.

I know an individual who travels 4 times daily over the Ambassador bridge daily. Yes I said 4 (FOUR) times daily. The times he usually goes through to Detroit are roughly 11:30 AM, and roughly 6:00 PM. Return trips into Windsor are aprox.: 12:15PM and 8:00 PM. He does this Monday through Friday. He has been doing this now for approximately 1 year now.

Traveling to Detroit in the mornings can be a little intimidating due to the fact that there are SOOOOOO many trucks attempting to make the trip as well. If you’re a trucker, then your wait can be upwards to a 3-hour wait at the bridge. For a car, no more than 5 minutes. I said 5 (FIVE). He has not had to wait more than 5 minutes to get over the border for the longest time now. This is going both ways. Detroit to Windsor, and Windsor to Detroit.

I cannot offer travel times for any other time of the day, except for the ones listed above.

What really bothers me is the local Detroit radio stations inaccurately reviewing delay times at the borders. Most only review truck delay and incorporate the same times for passenger vehicles. This is driving me crazy!

Yes trucks take forever to get over. PASSENGER VEHICLES are not having the same problem.

This will give you a rough indication on what types of delays one should expect at that time at those crossings.

I know this has been long winded, but you have no idea on how many calls we receive from our American friends wondering if we can send Escorts to them in the Detroit area because they worry about delay times at the borders. We cannot send our Escorts into the US. Legal Escorts in Windsor are not allowed to conduct business in the US. Period.

Besides, keeping an eye out on the Ambassador Bridge web site will keep you a breast of the average in and out times at that border.

Besides you can’t beat our Canadian rates. Getting an Escort to you for around $130.00 CDN ($90.00 UDS) is beyond belief. It is feasible to get to Windsor, see an Escort, and get back to the US in about 90 minutes. Especially if you call in advance.

What I am trying to get at is this. The borders are fine. Come a visit Windsor. We have a blast here. I’m sure you will as well.

Good info, Neil! Thanks for enlightening us all.

Not that I'm one who is likely to partake of the travel option, being an agency operator myself, but another thing that would be good for all to know is how sticky the customs agents are about ID. Before 9/11, I seem to recall you could get back and forth with nothing more than a driver's license and then, after 9/11, much was made about requiring a Passport or Birth Certificate... is that STILL the case? Should people be careful to assure they have that second form of government ID, such as a Passport or Birth Certificate?

I am very sure that the ID items required are:

1. A picture ID...
2. Proof of Citizenship.

The D/L is only a 'picture ID', passport or naturalization papers prove citizenship.

You can use a birth certificate, voter registeration card or passport along with a photo id.

I'm in Canada all the time and I never have issues with my ID and Birth Certificate.

BTW. Just got off the phone with a client who came in from the Ambassador bridge. He quoted a total delay time of ZERO, nada, zilch!! Drove right into the booth, had his ID ready and was at his room in 8 minutes.
