I can't believe how complacent Canadians are. Where are the protests, the marches, and the riots? When the left was about to bring in sex class to grade 3 students and talk about homosexuality the Christians went to war and put a stop to it. Premiere Dad backed down but with the HST tax about to take hold and sift more money out of our pockets, we are just sitting back and having it shoved deep into our asses. Where's the fight DAMMIT? It’s our pooning money they are taking from, come on, UNITE AND FIGHT! Alrighty then my rant is done.

I'm sure some peeps haven't even caught wind of it yet. The federal government subsidizing broadcasting stations such as CBC, don't expect new proposed/passed tax laws to be shared with the canadian's taxpayer with any sort of expediency.

There have been protests over the HST be the natives last fall. We are just busy at work, picking up are kids, etc. to protest and cause riots. If you want riots just wait until June until GX summit comes to town.

I think there's a great deal of pride to be had in our unwillingness to riot. There's much to be said for civility and the ability to discuss.

Canada and the US are undoubtedly culturally different. To start - Church and state are separate. Catholics send their kids to Catholic schools if they want them raised with values appropriate to that culture and it's up to the School Board and Parents to make those decisions (I attended Catholic schools my entire elementary and high school education).

Now when it comes to things like HST tax - the reason (I feel and this isn't fact) people in Canada don't revolt, is because we see our money at work. Our health care, our roads, our social programs to help the poor, mentally ill and disabled - though not perfect - function. Generally in countries where social services actually serve the population, you don't see outcries over taxes. In the US, this is not the case. They aren't the tax haven people believe them to be, yet, the people living in the states don't really see the benefit of paying their taxes. In fact, a huge section of their taxes goes to funding war and weaponry.

Also as far as the tax regarding public television stations: Corporations like Rodgers air public television without ever paying them for their programming - and there's nothing they can do about it. Rogers and Bell send out commercials wording it as further taxes o things that are already subsidized by the government, when really they're passing on the additional charge to customers rather then do the right thing and swallow the cost (because they can afford to play the propaganda game). The fight is really for corporations to fairly pay the programming they are charging other customers to view, while acquiring it free themselves.

I do believe there is a degree of passivity to Canadians - we don't have the type of violent history most countries around the globe share. However, I don't think riots and revolts are the answer, I believe getting politically involved (writing your MP - yes it does make a difference, they count a single letter are representing 100 silent voices), your vote, and peaceful protest is the answer.

I'm proud that Canada is civilized, and would like it to stay that way. I spend a lot of time in the US and it's not to be envied.

I've heard of the HST, or Harmonized Sales Tax. But I have never heard of the Harmonized Sales Tax tax.

I guess I should make a trip to an ATM machine and enter my PIN number to get out the money I will need to pay this new HST tax.

Now, if you can't tell by now, let me lay it out: stop being redundant! The 'T' stands for tax.

I agree Canada has a very expansive social net but there is also a lot of fat and waste in our government. We are being taxed up the ying yang, in my opinion our governments are behaving like Robin Hood. They take from the middle class to give to the poor.

The Ontario economy was starting to jug along, HEY I HAVE A GREAT IDEA, lets bring in more taxes, yup sounds like a smart economical stimulus plan for Ontario. Of course the tax fighter Harper is all smiles and patting his adversarial Ontario Liberal leader on the back. SHEESH, I have no idea who to vote for anymore, they are all dimwits.

I could be wrong, but I think we do a better job taxing our rich then the US. If anyone knows any better feel free to correct me!

Yeah, I have to admit that I'm not a Harper fan, though he's a charming man if you see him speak in person. He's essentially changing our political landscape to be more reflective of an American environment. I'm really not fond of his social conservatism, and dishonesty. Too much behind closed doors.

Are you a South Park fan? Elections are always between jackasses.

My greatest criticism of Canada is it's lack of true leadership on both sides of the spectrum.

I don't know. I think he's right to be so picky.

Frankly, society is falling apart, and language is a key indicator of that decline.
