What would you do???

Hello,

A few weeks ago I met this man with whom I went out for a date.
He was very courteous and treated me well. During this evening out I mentioned that I am a Massage Therapist.
Just now he called me saying that he has got lower back problems and would like to have a massage!
Now I am not sure how to deal with this, in a way I would like to give him a nice holistic massage treatment to help alleviate his condition at the other hand it feels somewhat awkward because I do give treatments in my home and I feel a little uncomfortable with this situation.
I would not invite a "first date" to my home under normal circumstances.

I would very much appreciate your opinions and advise.

I would tell him how I feel and refer him to another therapist for the time being. You can say that you do not want to spoil your developing friendship. I hope it make sense

Depends how much you like the guy.......

The truth is normally a good approach. Tell him how you feel. Maybe his intentions are honorouble......

Mind you Zimba.....can't beat a wild night of passion.......

Just take control of the situation and don't get into situations you are not comfortable with, would be my advice !

I agree with Oakapple it's a novel approach, but you've already had a date so maybe his lower back pain is genuine. If you want to give him a treatment, could you rent a room locally?

First of all thanks for your sound advices.
Thought I give you an update on this little story: Well, I told Mr. Lower Back Pain that I felt uncomfortable to give him a massage treatment in my home at this stage of the friendship and mentioned that he could see one of my friends for a treatment who has a proper treatment room set up etc.
Instead I offered that we could meet up for a coffee one afternoon.
His answer: His back is much better and yes perhaps we see each other again in future.
Looks like his intentions were not genuine.
I am so glad I reacted the way I did!

it annoys me, though what some people think about the massage business.
I think that the other profession would do us a big favour if they wouldn't use the word "massage" when offering their services.

The way I used to treat this one is when friends in the past have asked me for reflexology. I just say, 'well thats what i get paid for and with it being my job, I have enough of that in my working day. I don't want to sound awful but I dont want to be coming home and doing it in my spare time too. They always understand. To be honest it was true. I have a friend who is a hairdresser who gets the same questions all the time. Its these type of jobs that people think you love doing so much that you carry on after work for nothing. You wouldnt go out for a drink and say to the barman, 'after you finish here would you pop to my house and serve me drinks for a hour or two' i mean! would ye?

ha ha, very true, Serendipity.
I wouldn't have minded to treat this person though for his lower back pain. I just think it was not appropriate to ask me to give him a massage after we had been on a "first and very likely last date"
In general I do make my friends pay for treatments. Not the full price but something just to cover my costs like the oil, washing the towels etc.
And my friends do not have a problem with that at all.
