Yes, I walked by there last night at about 9 and it was open. It's where the old New York Bar used to be. I didn't go in because the music inside was ear splitting. I did peer inside and the bar was maybe 1/4 to 1/3 full. I was told by somebody who actually went in for a beer that the beers were 1500 colones, same price as the Del Rey. What I saw inside looked spiffy enough. Back in the back they have a DJ in a nice glass booth, shielded from the noise he is creating, I suppose.

I have no idea if this place will be a hit or not. It will not be a stop on any itinerary of mine, or most guys who live here. I have been told that there is some movie where the bartenders get up and dance between pouring drinks and maybe this is supposed to be the attraction. Since I can go to an actual strip club and see totally naked women that I can diddle for under $40, and pay less for a beer, watching bartenders dance isn't all that thrilling to me. But maybe the 'younger generation' and those who don't want to go more than 100 yards from the Del Rey will go there.

Time will tell whether this will be a hit or a miss. I don't see it as much more than the Monkey Bar 2.0.

As I was a huge fan of the New York Bar, I felt the need to stop in last night. For the most part, I didn't really enjoy the place but that's probably because I'm the type of guy that enjoyed the ambiance of the old New York. But don't use me as a guide as to whether to stop in. Some key points:

(1) They spent a lot of money on the remodel in the main bar. The old wooden bar is gone (I hope someone bought it) and is replaced by a new bar running the length of the right side of the bar area.

(2) Drinks seem to be basically normal gulch prices, a few colones mas or menos.

(3) The have dancer poles all along the bar. The bartenders dance on the bar (most are pretty hard-bodied). They are fully clothed. I wouldn't think they would be available for any playtime any more than a Del rey or key Largo bartender (in other words bring your A game and your wallet)

(4) As stated above the music was close to ear-splittting house / dance club type of music. Not my cup of tea. Give me the old Creedance from the old NYB.

(5) There were a couple of the old NYB girls (I am being charitable with the girls description) hanging at the bar but it was early. A few gringos, maybe 10 or so at the bar.

(6) They repainted the mens room, but it still has that "aromatic" trough set up I remember so fondly from grade school.

Overal, I wasn't impressed though some folks, especially those that enjoy house-type music, might find the place enjoyable. So for now, when I want to kick back with the old gringos and flirt with the B-level (or C-level) girls, I guess it will be Bar Poas or Joe B and karens.

Whew, if the music is too loud to allow a decent conversation with the chicas, that kills it for me. I will stop in for a beer, though, to check it out. Did you happen to get the hours of operation?

Yes, I would say neither. Definitely NOT a strip club, unless you have x-ray vision. I didn't see any working girls in there but maybe one might stray inside from time to time. It wouldn't be on my list of stops if I were looking for company.

I received a report today from a friend, that chicas were available at Wild Cherry and that you "pay the bouncer." Sounds a little like the Asian 'bar fine' type thing. :? Anybody have any info??

The balcony is still there. I don't know if I'd be inclined to sit there and watch the world go by, though. The place doesn't really have a 'laid back' feel anymore. I think the idea is to get customers to party hearty, not chill.

Exactly! I can only stand about 10 minutes of that 'house/dance' crap. Give me some Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, CCR, the Doors, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, AC/DC, Queen, the Who, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elton John, RHCPs, etc., and crank it up to '11'

I have heard that Catherine (Kathy) from the old NY bar is working there. Also, Karla who used to work the Key Largo, etc. is working there. Pic #s 14757, 14758, 14759 and 147560. I may pop my head in there again, see if it's still the same (too loud) deal.
