i wouldnt exactly call me a expert on TJ but i would say im a regular, now as far as trouble, me personally i have never had any problems and i have gone plenty of times by myself. there are simple rules to follow like 1) never walk from border to bars, and 2) do not be dis respectful to anyone even if they are scum. My thing when i go by myself is i find someone who will look out for me, a local, pay him couple bucks 5-10, and he will look out for you while you in the area. when it comes to money these people are trustworty if you good to them. TJ trip should consist of the following, border....taxi to adilitas.....bang as many tramps as you can........go border by taxi, stay in one place, you only get into trouble when you start wandering. adilitas is the hot spot you aint going to find any better down there so you in good hands there, probably going 5-20-05 to drop some sperm.....lemme know if anyone wanna beer, on me

I got set up by the policia and the even placed small bad of cocaine in the napkins I had in my pocket. They threatened me and drove me all over town for over one hour. I am a San Diegan, but not that experience with TJ. Eventually I was able to convince them that I was going to go back to US side and bring them $600.00 within one hour. They set me free at the border and told me to come back within 1 hour, or they would post my name and picture in the Mexican Police system as a drug dealer on the run...... and all that bs. Of course, I screwed them. My advice is: "be extremely careful and avoid wondering around in areas other than right in front of Adelitas and Chicago at night.

I won't jinx things by saying I've never had any trouble going alone (so I'm NOT saying that!) but it'd be true if I said it. Previous poster's right on it: stay alert, look like you know where/what you're doing/going.

I'm making a daytime run on Thursday and feel pretty comfortable that I know a number of fun places; but am always up for learning more. I ALWAYS end up at Adelitas for the climax!

So yesterday I went into TJ with a friend of mine, and for the first time ever in the 25+ times I've been in TJ, we were walking on the street and got stopped by the Policia. They told us they were doing a "routine check", and had us step up to a wall, and frisked us. Oddly enough when they got to my wallet they asked me to take it out of my pocket and didn't have me hand it over, open it or anything, and after they were satisfied we weren't carrying guns or drugs or whatever, they let us go. I was absolutely certain up until they let us go that we were going to have to pay them off to not end up in jail. Has anyone else had an experience like that? We were about a block up the street from HK and XX bar.

I have been to TJ twice by myself and I haven't had any problems. I am a big mutha phucka. But more importantly, I am constantly alert for someone trying to set me up or screw me over. Stay alert and stay alive. I am a bit paranoid sometimes, but it has kept me out of everything so far. Staying super low key is also super important while traveling to TJ or whatever. I don't wear flashy clothes and don't look like I have money when I go abroad. I am not one of those drunk guys stumbling around puking and pissing on myself in another country. Not only is it dangerous to do that, but it makes Americans look even worse(which we don't need. It can also be expensive to act stupid in TJ or other places. If you are going to TJ everyday or close to it, alter your routes and times if possible to break up any kind of cab driver/mugging schemes that might form from your habit. Speak to your cab driver kindly, in a tone that lets him know that you are not a newb. Your posture also tells someone that you aren't be fucked with. On that last note, nothing is 100% all the time. If it's your time, it's your time. But if you do what I do, you will minimize your risk, which is all that we can do.
