Should I buy a used Oakworks Table

I have the chance to pick up a used Oakworks Table for 300. No rips or tears. Has the face cradle but no carry case.  It was purchased by the original ower in 93.  He calls it the Deep Body Work Table. I know this brand has good tables I just am concerend about the age. I am starting school in a couple of months so need to get something. I was thinking a good name older brand table would be better then a new cheaper (Costco) table.  So do you all have an opinion on "aged" tables?Thanks

There are a couple of other starter table packages for under $300. The costco table is not bad for the price, and will save you on shipping. I've been using mine for over a year now (just getting started myself).

One of the things you may find with older tables is the weight. Pick it up and walk around with it for at least 5 minutes.  Try to put it in your car.  Can you manage it OK?  Do you have to go up and down stairs with it?  Newer tables are usually a bit lighter and after a couple of minutes it can make a HUGE difference.A lot of people start their practice doing a bit of mobile work before getting their place of business set-up, even if is just friend of a friend mobile work.  Add you linen and a few other things to the table and it will be even heavier.  Could you manage the table then?Has the current owner used it a LOT?  The padding may be about to give up and flatten out.  It's good the cover is in good condition, but you also have to worry about the condtition of the padding , legs and hinges.  Does it squeak?  Lie on it for as long as possible -  if you're only 90lbs, find someone bigger to lie on it for a while. Turn over.  DOes it squeak?  How quickly does the foam bounce back?  '93 is probably a single density foam on it.....

i agre with melb.but don't get me wrong. oakworks makes a good product. i have an oakworks wellspring.my other table is a golden ratio. very good company. i just got an email from them a day or two ago about a table sale.

Thanks everyone. All stuff I didn't think of. Extra weight, padding breakdown and all that. I think with the links you gave me I  see that there are more options out there in a starter table. Plus its always so exciting to get something new!Thanks again
