I'm looking for some information for a friend, she's also a MT, but doesn't frequent MassagePlanet. She'd be the first to tell you that she's a bit techno challenged, so she doesn't often get the chance to bump her hubby offline long enough to do more online than check her e-mail. :

Anyway a client of hers has been diagnosed with radial tunnel syndrome.
And she was wondering how the treatment for Radial Tunnel Syndrome differs from treatment for CTS. (Incidentally, the client is another MT... though not one I know... but one hates to hear about injuries which may prevent our colleagues from working!)

I told her I'd ask ya'll right away to see if you had any ideas, as I'll be getting together with her again tomorrow morning as well. So I'd be happy to share any tips or resources that ya'll have with her at that time!

RTS is more like tennis elbow than CTS. It is the impingement of the nerve by the supinator, after it passes the elbow joint, it really has nothing to do with carpel bones. I would definitely do a lot of cross fiber friction at the lateral epicondyle, find the TP's, and do muscle stripping of the entire forearm. I would also do a good amount of work on the pronator teres, because I find that we (myself included) have issues with too much pronation because we work with our hands, so we stay in this position a good amount of our days. That way the pronator can be stretched from its contracted state and hopefully relieve the lengthening of the supinator. I would also work on her neck, because yes, we do have a tendency to be too tight in our traps and scalines causing nerve inpingements...

yep, i'd say active release and friction would be good.

i'd have your friend suggest to the MT that he/she needs to modify the way they are working and make sure that they're using proper wrist alignment.

it's never good to hear a fellow mt is suffering from injury. hopefully your friend can help him/her.
