massage linens - How many "on hand" for an MT?

I'm currently mentoring a MT student and would appreciate a bit of advice from you all.

I would like to know how many sets of massage sheets you feel that the average massage therapist should have "on hand." How many blankets, how many towels, how many pillows?  Any other supplies you feel a newbie might need?

The reason I ask is yesterday I purchased 8 new sets of sheets. (85% off, I really couldn't pass by that kind of deal.) And I thought I might offer this student I mentor some of my older linens since she will be graduating in a few months and opening her own practice. While I, on the other hand, am moving out of the area within the next few months as well.

I'd love to donate them to her... but am also leery of "burdening" her with "hand me downs."

wow, your student is lucky to have you.  I don't think she would mind at all receiving your used sheets as long as they are in decent condition .  For starting out she should go by how many clients she would want to do a day and have at least that many and few extras(i'm going by the fact she will be washing her own linens as i do)as well as towels.  I keep two standard pillows, body pillow, bolster ,shoulder bolsters and blankets on hand.  Hope that helps. As she gets going she will know what to do.

I culled a bunch of sheets recently, and replaced them with new, better sheets, but still have around 30 sets.  There are some that are "special occasion", like a confetti set (for birthdays), valentine's day, christmas flannel, four leaf clover, etc. that I use infrequently, and the rest are either white percale or an amethyst percale.There have been times when having a large supply of sheets has been very helpful, like when my washing machine broke, and I had to haul them to the laundramat.  I've never used my entire supply in a week's time (though I'd love to...LOL), but I think a good supply for a beginner would be around eight sets.One good polar fleece blanket is all anyone needs.  I bought a large one, and I can double it, if neccessary.  I also have a twin down comforter, but that's not a neccessity.I don't find I use many towels.  I keep about 6 in the office.One King pillow for side-lying, one Standard, and two Travel-sized pillows are very good to have.  remember to have enough cases for all of them.A good twin mattress pad is not mandatory, but I find it makes a big difference in comfort.  I got a very nice Martha Stewart pad at KMart.  And, of course, the usual supply of tissues, clorox wipes, baby wipes (unless she will have hot towels), etc are always something to remember.

Thanks for the reply art_of_zen, I went ahead and offered them to the student I mentored. So, she's now seven sets of flannel sheets and two blankets and two extra pillow cases richer. LOLThe hilarious thing was the next time we got together she mentioned to me that she'd taken a set of them to school and that several of her classmates complimented her on them! ;D

I think for a student or new practitioner, a good round number is 8 sets of sheets. آ Of course, 30 sets آ : *grins* would be heaven in the "not-having-to-wash-every-night" department.I use the egyptian cotton sheets (13 sets) currently and really like them in maroon, however I do have a question which I will add at the end of this note. آ I keep 4 regular pillows (think I'll add to this a king, because THAT is a good idea!), and about 18 face cradle covers. I found I actually really like those flannel face cradle covers, they are very easy to bleach, wash fold, etc. and never really get to looking poorly. آ I highly suggest putting the money into these. آ Yep, I have a bolster too, but don't use it too much.For a blanket, I too like the fleece. آ Got mine, a twin size, at Linens & Things. آ I keep 4 of these (fleece blankets), and plan to purchase at least 2 more in the winter when they go on sale again. As for towels, I keep about 6 handtowels in the office for various needs, and 3 regular towels. آ Have rarely used them though.I always have things like sanitary wipes, extra lotion bottles and of course extra lotion, and PLENTY of CD's!Another thing for a student to think of is getting a small step stool for elderly clients. I am sure there is a lot I have left out, but that's the basic part for massage linens. آ I think it is awesome you passed yours on. آ Very lucky student indeed!Now, for my question.  I am looking for a good company who sells excellent linens in white or ivory, which hold up, feel nice to the touch, are not itchy to lay between and are thick.  Any suggestions on a company and the title of the linen?Definitely enjoying this forum!
