Okay, I think I'm in trouble. I recently fell while running for a bus and other than a few scrapes I thought I was okay. However, over the last couple of days, I'm finding that supination and pronation of my right hand hurts. Doing visual check, I think the tip of the ulna that articulates with the superior aspect of the wrist is out of alignment (in comparison to the left hand) because the 'wrist bone' seems more pronounced. There doesn't seem to be any swelling.Any suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't have any insurance and I don't know a chiro.

Yikes! I know what it is like to have problems with your wrists and it's not fun. I have what I call "weak" wrists and the slightest thing will put them out of alignment. I'm currently uninsured as well but honestly if you can scrape together the money I would highly recommend getting in to a chiropractor. Call around. Someone may be willing to trade with you or you can at least find someone with reasonable prices. I've had a lot of success with chiropractic on my wrists. Another thing that I do that really seems to help is yoga. Just yesterday after doing the two massages I had scheduled for the day I thought "Oh, no. Here I go again." My right wrist was becoming extremely painful, especially in flexion. Then I went to my yoga class last night. Even though it was hard in the beginning of class by the end I was pain free. Then I went home, worked my forearm, and iced. I'm going to be very careful today in my appointments but I think I averted disaster this time.

Yeah, I figured I'd need to go to a chiro to hopefully 'pop' it back into place. (It was fun doing my palpation performance test on Saturday.) Maybe I'll be able to set up a professional relationship with him/her for when I graduate. *** ;D*** Always trying to find the silver lining.

2Ts - no, I didn't fall on them. As I was running for a bus (after class), I tripped on what felt were my shoelaces (but ended up being debris on the sidewalk - it was night time). Instead of falling onto my knees (which would have been very bad) or directly on my hands (which also would have been very bad), I ended up sliding about 6 feet. Scraped off a portion of skin on the palm of my hand at heel, my right knee, and a long scratch on my abdomen.The loss of skin on my hand is healing, not painful. The skin on my knee is healing, only slightly painful. But my wrist is like a dull, persistent pain, and my wrist feels very stiff. Fortunately, there's no radiating pain.I hope you're right as far as a chiro being amicable to making a payment schedule - now all I gotta do is find one. Thanks.
 
Gaspen, ask the teachers at school if they know of any good chiropractors.  You may even have a chiro teaching there and not know it!  And if not, well I'm sure there'll be at least a couple of teachers there who know someone reputable, and being able to say "I got your name from so-and-so" might go farther to getting a payment schedule worked out.Good luck....I hope you're feeling better soon  :-*

Thanks for all your input. I spoke with one of my teachers. I asked him if he knew of a good chiro. He gave me the card of one of his clients. He said she'd probably be able to work something out with me. He also asked me if I was going a cryo therapy coupled with ROM exercises. I said no, because I didn't want to make matters worse. He suggested I do cryo and ROM without pain, saying that should help. Tried a little of it last night after class, helped some. Am going to try it during the day. Again. Thanks.

You might want to try using a wrist wrap ( at least until you can be seen by a professional). This has been effective in people who suffer carpal tunnel, I know there is a vast difference in bone injury and CTS, but it will help stabilize the wrist and (hopefully) aid in preventing further damage. A couple of rubs that you may want to use to help ease pain and stiffness : Tei Fu massage lotion (works like a charm), HQPR (this is an ointment used on working horses to ease joint pain, tendon stiffness and ligament strains...it is herbal, all nautral and works wonders on people). I have used both products with positive results for myself and others. The Tei Fu you can find at any health food store that carries Nature's Sunshine products (there is also Tei Fu essential oil which is great for lots of conditions) and the HQPR can be purchased at any feed store or other store that carries horse supplies. Also, hemorrhoid creams seem to work well for pain and stiffness (such as bengay and prep h)as I have used them before as well for stiff joints, or you can try using icy hot perhaps (if you can stand it LOL)Also gentle stretching and light massage may help.

Thanks, Agent (et al), your suggestions are appreciated. The ice therapy I used yesterday seemed to help some and I'll resume it today. I've got clinic Sunday and plan on wrapping my wrist before my first Client.

I second the thought of using a wrist wrap or brace until you do have the full ROM return. I fell down a staircase once (tripped), and caught my wrist in between the rungs a couple of steps above where I landed. I sprayed it down with Biofreeze and wrapped it right away. Over the following week I alternated with ice, wraps and warm epsom's salt hand baths. There was no swelling but a dull, almost constant pain for several days. This was a little over a month ago and I have had no problems with it since it healed. I have also had a wonderful experience with acupuncture and magnet therapy for wrist complaints from other "wrist incidents."For maintenance I get semi-annual chiropractic wrist adjustments and I always ask my MT to spend a few extra minutes on my hands and wrists during my regular sessions.

The human body is just great. I've been having the same wrist pain/discomfort/limited ROM for about a month or so. Then, this morning, I realized the pain was no longer there. I'm much more aware of my body and what's going on with it since going to school. I've noticed my wrist over the past couple of weeks have been 'popping' every so often (no pain). I guess my body just kinda healed itself (don't try this at home, kids).Thanks to everyone for their comments/etc.

Oh my! I can't believe I missed this post! I have this happen all the time. I used to be a skater, so I know what it means to fall on a wrist. It hurts, and the bone seems MUCH higher than normal. I still get this every now and then when I breakdance (stop laughing, white boys can do it too) at parties, and there's a quick fix for it. I used to get a dictionary (or any heavy book) and just slam it down on my wrist. It would hurt for about 2 more seconds, then would feel great, giving me full painless ROM. I learned this from skating. I had fallen and hurt my wrist BADLY. Well, the next day, I went back out to skate, fell again on the same wrist, and wouldn't ya know it, it 'popped' it back into place, and felt just fine. All times after that, I used a dictionary. Don't be afraid to really slam the book down, as if you do it lightly or hold back thinking it will hurt, it will only hurt worse, and not fix the problem. May take you more than one try to get the right spot, but I've always hit it right the first time, never had a problem. ;D
 
Seforum.xxxg, dude, no chiropractor? LOL  That sounds a little painful...Actually I have issues with the bones of my wrist subluxating as well. (Loose ligaments I guess.) Anyway, I watched a video that I got from my local library on CTS and RSI and I believe it was either by Kate Montgomery or Sharon J. Butler. I'll have to see if it's still available... Anyway, it demonstrated a couple ways of realigning the wrist bones and the elbows as well. I do this every once in awhile between chiropractic visits to maintain "wrist" health. *grin*

Since I doubt very seriously if I'm only one of a select few (you and Seforum.xxxg notwithstanding) who suffer from this, I'd like to have more information so that I can apply it to my clients when/if this problem appears (and then refer out if I'm unable to help).

Maestra, didn't have a chiropractor at the time I first started doing it, then I got used to the book, so I'm more of a do-it-myselfer now. You wouldn't happen to have the title of those videos, would ya? Our library is so small I doubt I'd find them there, but maybe I could order them?

Gaspen, Maestra's right, probably best to refer out to a chiropractor you trust. Has it gotten better yet? Sometimes it's best just to wait it out, if you don't have the time to go to the chiro. Add my aunt to that list of people who suffer from it. She also uses the book treatment.

Actually, it's pretty good now. It only offers minor, transient discomfort when I have the wrist in a medially rotated position for a prolonged time (yeah, I know, so don't do it). But there's no discomfort at all when doing massage.
