Does everyone really beleive that we should age gracefully, or fight it at every turn. I will quite happily resort to plastics, botox, hair dye, whatever it takes to keep a youthfull appearance. I work out to stop everything dripping south, I surf just to keep hanging with younger people. I use creams and moisturizes.

TRUTHFULLY, am I in the minority? Some people in my circles say that one should age gracefully. As George Castanza once said, "I lived my whole life in shame, why should I age gracefully"

This could be an interesting thread if people respond, otherwise it could be one of those real embarrassing ones that everyone ignores. Someone save me and interact.

What are your thoughts about age?
About plastics?
About fighting age?

You got the drift, that was a little picky don't you think. That would be as picky as me telling you that the word is ficticious, not fictinious. But, I will stand corrected, I am not a Seinfeld trivia master by any stretch but I assumed that everyone would know that George Castanza was a character, as a matter of fact I would almost guarantee it.

By the way, did you get the actual point of my thread? If so, what are your thoughts regarding aging or are you one of those lucky people who are very young? Anyone whose age begins with a two is young, hell even the early threes. Arbie tells me that 36 is young, so it is all a matter of opinion. All I know is, kids working for me were born when I started Uni, I am old enough to be their Father and it is depressing to me.

I agree with Merlin's point re the balance between looking good and having fun and I'd add that while I spend money on appearance I also counmassageplanet.netalance that with significant donations to charity (financial and time wise) coz it's a great reminder that there is more to life.

I think if you are a happy person it shows - you walk well, feel like smiling at other people and they can tell you feel great. So not all of it is cosmetic or genetic.

Balance is the key as is moderation in all things (except alcohol of course! I have never mastered the art of saying no to a little drink-ette)

Hey Funky your still a young un. Not telling you my age but I was born before the 2nd world war (or was that the first). I belong to the Ulysses motor bike club who's motto is "Grow Old Disgracefully" and we still do Rock & Roll demo's (did one at Rogues last Reviewiday night). Will be at Wintersun in a couple of weeks time.

As much as I try, I just can't see myself having a problem with that. I would love to be asked for I.D., shit I don't think I was EVER asked for I.D. when I was fifteen. God, I must have been born old.

For a brief moment I looked good, was young and happy. I am quoting someone here but these days I say "With a family You work hard, you earn a living, raise your kids, try your best, and for a "moment" everyone is healthy and happy" I think my youth was the same, for a "moment" I was happy.

Then again, there is a lot to say about contentment.

As someone who turns 41 next week, I am growing more comfortable into my "new" (or evolving) appearence.
I played sport to highish levels until 30, training most days etc. I was very fit and even more vain, judgemental and conceited. In the last 5 or 6 years I have managed to acquire a gut and about 20 kilos of extra baggage I carry around all day. Funnily enough I am happier in myself and more confident than before. I drink too much and eat the occassional pizza etc. Life is too short to be overly concerned with trivial things. I constantly suprise myself that I can find an attractive woman to take out on the rare occassions I go out and want a "date". It obviously isn't that I look like George Clooney's older and beer gut toting older brother! It must be that people I am attracted to can look beyond the superficial and see other qualities in people?
Getting older is amazingly O.K. You grow into yourself and learn to like your voice and feelings (this is too deep for me as I am shitting myself off now! supercillious bastard that I am).
