IHM - a good course?

I know there has already been a discussion on distance learning courses - in particular the School of Natural Health Sciences.
Just wondered if anyone had done a course in Indian Head Massage with the SNHS - would love to know their opinion of it, as was thinking of signing up for this course. Is it possible to learn IHM without practical demonstration by the tutor? Obviously, it must be as many people have qualified (reading their info) and presumably are happily working as therapists. But just curious to know how it works, and if its as good as a 'hands on' course?
I qualified with the A.o.R in June, and doing a few treatments, but feel it would be better to have another therapy to offer as many HP-ers do several!
Also SNHS costs are reasonable and my funds are a deciding factor at the mo....

I'd be grateful for any advice/opinions.

I would be tempted to save up and do a 'hands on' course. The theoretical learning may be sound, but there is nothing quite like personal experience when learning how to apply techniques - with other people in a class setting. Some local Further Education colleges now offer IHM, don't know what they charge though.

I took my IHM course at my local FE college. It was a 15 week course - 3 hours per week in college, plus, case studies and coursework. The cost was £98 (plus £53 which I think was for VTCT registration as this was my first course).

Obviously prices may vary from one colege to another, but hopefully, this provides a guide to what you might expect to pay for an FE college course as opposed toa private one.

Unless a distant learning IHM course can offer proper practical training, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. IHM isn't rocket science but it still needs to be taught and practised properly.

The thing about some of the (not all of course) distant learning providers is they know now to sucker people into the courses by providing easy payment terms, and schemes like pay less with no tuition.

You are better off looking for a local training course. Some IHM courses are run as post-graduate, so therefore previous qualifications are taken into account.

Even though I teach ITEC Diploma in IHM and very biased towards proper training and not shortcuts, I would recommend looking at:

as a baseline to judge other courses.

I like your logic about offering something else, especially not feet related. Prehaps I should start a thread one day about why some people hate their feet .

Thanks for your advice about a distance-learning course in IHM. You're right, of course - I couldn't quite see how it would work when you are not watching a tutor demonstrate and having the constant feedback from them as you 'struggle' a bit in the early stages (speaking for myself, of course!)
I had better curb my impatience and see if I can find a college course or save up to attend a private one.

Good idea to start a thread on why some people hate their feet, Reiki Pixie - it ain't good for business! Indian Head Massage is lovely, though, had 2 sessions recently from a friend who does it.

I am considering a one-day course in London. Small classes. Practitioner Diploma at the end of it.

Do you know anyone that has done one of these one-day courses?

How can a one day course be called a "practitioner diploma"??? Some "diploma" courses take months or even years to complete.

I think I will award myself a "PhD" for being a nice chap.
